Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

CheckinRules is intended for legitimate short-term rental business use: collecting pre-arrival rule acknowledgments, documenting guest attestations, and supporting host operations. Use outside this purpose may violate this policy.

2. Prohibited Uses

You may not use CheckinRules to:

  • Engage in or facilitate illegal activities
  • Violate fair housing, anti-discrimination, or accessibility laws (including the Fair Housing Act and ADA)
  • Send harassment, threats, or abusive communications through the platform
  • Impersonate another person or entity
  • Attempt reverse engineering, unauthorized access, or security testing without permission
  • Scrape, crawl, or automate data collection beyond documented API limits or normal product use
  • Resell, sublicense, or white-label the Service without written agreement

3. Property Restrictions

Properties you list must be lawfully operated short-term rentals. You are responsible for permits, taxes, local STR regulations, and platform (Airbnb, Vrbo, etc.) rules.

4. Content Restrictions

House rules, templates, and custom clauses must comply with applicable law. You are responsible for ADA compliance in any custom wording you add beyond our locked federal service-animal questions.

4.1 Fair housing

Do not use custom rules to discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, disability, or other protected classes. Examples include "adults only" occupancy policies, banning children or families from booking, or requiring U.S. citizenship. Narrow safety rules (for example, minimum age for pool or hot tub use) are permitted when scoped to the hazard.

4.2 ADA compliance

Do not impose extra requirements on service animals, including breed or weight limits, registration or vest requirements, or proof of disability. CheckinRules provides federally compliant service-animal questions; do not replace them with non-compliant wording.

4.3 Liability waivers

Do not use custom clauses to waive all host liability, bar all legal claims, or require guests to indemnify the host for any harm. Such language is often unenforceable and misleading.

4.4 Immigration status

Do not require guests to show passports, visas, or other immigration documents, or to verify citizenship or immigration status. Hosts cannot act as immigration enforcement.

4.5 Privacy

Avoid collecting sensitive personal data in house rules (for example, Social Security numbers or payment card details) unless you have a clear lawful purpose and secure handling.

4.6 Ambiguous or invasive rules

Rules that may be legitimate in some contexts but invasive in others — such as broad guest approval requirements or entry without notice — should be reviewed carefully and written clearly.

5. Reporting Violations

Report suspected abuse to abuse@checkinrules.com. We investigate reports and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this policy.

6. Enforcement

We may warn, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this policy or our Terms of Service. Custom rules are checked against prohibited patterns when you save; blocked content cannot be published. Enforcement-related termination does not entitle you to a refund for unused subscription time unless required by law.
