House rules in CheckinRules are built from modules—pre-written, attorney-informed question flows guests complete on their phone. You choose which modules apply to each property and tune the settings.
What modules are
Each module is one topic (occupancy, quiet hours, pets, etc.). Guests see one step per enabled module in the wizard, in the order you set on the Rules tab. Modules capture structured answers you can rely on later—not a generic "I agree" checkbox.
The 14 built-in modules
- Occupancy — Confirm who is staying and how many guests are on the booking.
- Smoke-Free — Acknowledge no smoking, vaping, or cannabis on the property.
- Service Animal — ADA-aligned questions about trained service animals only.
- Quiet Hours — Establishes quiet hours and noise expectations.
- Parking & Vehicles — Establishes vehicle limits and parking rules.
- No Commercial Use — Acknowledgment that the property is for personal use only, not for business, events, or filming.
- Wifi Use Policy — Acknowledgment of acceptable use of the property wifi network
- Trash & Recycling — Establishes pickup days and bin placement rules
- Hot Tub Safety — Safety acknowledgment for hot tub use
- No Pets — Confirm no pets will accompany the guest (service animals exempt under ADA).
- Pet Policy — Welcome pets with property-specific rules and acknowledgments.
- Pool Safety — Pool use rules and safety acknowledgments for properties with a swimming pool.
- Fireplace Safety — Fireplace use rules and safety acknowledgments for properties with a fireplace, fire pit, or stove.
- Damage Reporting — Disclosure of damage reporting procedure and optional pre-arrival inspection report.
New properties start with Occupancy, Smoke-Free, and Service Animal enabled. The service animal flow follows ADA-aligned questions—only trained service animals, not pets or emotional support animals.
Watch out for:
Do not enable both No Pets and Pet Policy on the same property unless you intend conflicting messages. Pick the one that matches your listing.
Configuring a module (per property)
- Open the property and go to Rules.
- Toggle modules on or off and expand each to edit settings (hours, limits, copy).
- Drag to reorder modules and custom rules in the guest wizard.
- Click Save so the configuration is recorded and used for new guests.
Archived properties show rules in read-only mode—you must restore the property to make changes.
Shared organization templates
If you manage several similar units, owners and admins can save a shared template at Settings → Shared templates. A shared template stores a full module and custom-rule configuration at the organization level.
Applying a shared template to a property replacesthat property's current rules (the previous version is kept in history). Updating a shared template does not change properties until you apply again manually.
On the Rules tab, use Quick start: apply a shared template when you want to copy a saved pack onto a property in one step.
